Music Video: Creative critical reflection
1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
Conventions are the generally accepted ways of doing something. My product more so of uses conventions rather than challenges them. The conventions of a music video, shot wise, are long shots, close ups, and mid shots. In my music video, many close up shots and mid shots were used. The close up shots that were used shows emotions. For example, in the music video, R Kelly and Usher, figured out that they were messing with the same girl which caused them to show sadness and disbelief. The close up shots are what captured their emotion the most. These close up shots represents how people of the same group are often interested in the same thing. For instance, a group of basketball players will most likely all be interested and want the new basketball shoes that came out but there are only a limited amount made. This can cause an issue much like it did in the music video.
2. How does your project engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My music video sort of fits into the category of a drama. This means, people who are interested in dramas will be more likely to watch it. In the music video, a certain tone and language is used. As well as different facial expressions and body movements. All of these characteristics is how my project engages with the audience. For example, the way the characters in the music video change the tone in their voice when they realize they're messing with the same girl pulls the audience in and makes them become more engaged. As for the way that my music video will be distributed as a real media text, online ads and magazines will be used to advertise. I chose those to be the form of advertisement due to both things being very popular. This means that the advertisements would reach huge amounts of people which would direct more traffic to the music video.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
In the beginning of this project, my production skills were not that good. Although I had a project similar to this before, I still had a lot to learn. I actually still have lot to learn. But, throughout this project, my production skills have developed more than I thought they would. One major way that my productions skills have developed throughout this project is my attention to detail. During the filming portion of this project, I, personally, redid many of my shots more than 3 times due to me paying attention to every detail. For example, during the the scene where I walked to the couch I noticed part of my head would get cut off as I walked. this caused me to redo the scene multiple times. I feel as if this production skill that I have developed will help me with many things in the future.
4. How did you integrate technologies - software, hardware, and online - in this project?
This particular project was a music video. Being that this project was a music video, it required a lot of technology. A software technology that I used was the iMovie app. iMovie was used to edit the music video. Me and my partner specifically used it for transitions. Another software app that I integrated into this project was the editing options on the iPhone camera application. This application was mostly used to trim videos. The music video was also recorded on iPhones. As for online technologies, YouTube was used a lot. The way I integrated YouTube was by using the app to play the song. This helped me stay on beat while lip-syncing.
