Filming Blog: Music Video

Image
Usually, I'll start the blog off by saying what day I begun to film on. This time, obviously, I won't be doing that. Me and my partner originally had planned to blog during November 22-24 which was in the middle of Thanksgiving break. I hope its safe to say that neither of us even touched our computer over the break. Due to us not filming when we originally planned to, we had to make some adjustments. We will now film our music video on December 2nd. Since we wont be able to see each other on that actual day, we will have to resort back to our backup plan. Our backup plan consists of us Filming ourselves separately, then editing them together. Due to December 2nd being a school day, we will most likely film later on in the day. For sure, we will both be filming on our phones, which are both iPhones. My partner and I expect things to run quite smoothly being that we both are familiar with filming. We are also both familiar with the actual song that we will be doing. This means t...

Scene 1: In the first scene, this will be the introduction of the music video. In the intro, we will be introducing ourselves as R Kelly and Usher instead of or actual names. In this scene, R Kelly walks in and proceeds to walk towards his living room couch ready to talk to his friend Usher. Scene 2: Scene two will consist of R Kelly sitting and getting comfortable on his couch and gets comfortable. He starts to think about how he is going to tell his friend the great news about his love life. Scene 3: This scene is where R Kelly starts to take out his phone to call his friend. Excitedly, he dials Ushers phone number and waits for the phone to ring. Scene 4: In this scene, we now move to Usher. This is when Usher now shows up on the screen and he is sitting down on his couch as he receives an incoming call from R Kelly. As he proceeds to answer the call, he pauses his television show.  Scene 5:  Usher then answers the call excited to hear from his friend. Scene 6:...

Planning Blog: Music Video Conventions

Props Since we decided to do a duet as our music video, we will need more props then usual. Our main prop will be a telephone. Other props that we will use are a chair, a bed, and a table. We also may use another person. Costumes In our music, there would be 2 or 3 on camera. The person playing R Kelly will wear a plaid shirt, a hat, and some baggy jeans. The person playing Usher will be wearing a white/black tee with some jeans or joggers. It may be a matching set. If we decide to add a third person they can wear whatever they please, mostly likely two pieces of casual clothing. Schedule On 11/13/20, We decided to work together and picked out the music video we wanted to do.                    On 11/16/20, We begun to research the codes and conventions of a music video.                                      On 11/17/20, We started to planning o...

Research Blog: Music video conventions

For this music video project, I will be working with my partner Aniya Smiff. We will be doing the song Same Girl by R Kelly and Usher which is a duet. In the video, I will play as Usher which is the opening, and Aniya will pay as R Kelly as he is listening on the other line. In the original music video for the song, the two men are sitting in their own homes as one of the men (R Kelly) tells Usher about his new girlfriend. As he is giving characteristics to his friend, Usher then realizes that a woman that he is talking to sounds similar. As Usher gives out more characteristics and then two men are comparing, the figure out that they are seeing the same woman. Because of the fact that the music video is only one minute long and we are starting from the beginning, our music video will only preview the phone conversation that the two men are having.  The two characters are two male friends.  The setting is at their homes. Our version of the music video will be the same, we will ...

Introduction to the music video project

Hi, it's me again, Maiyah. Today is the day I begin my music video process. I decided to work with a partner. The reason I decided to work with a partner and not alone is because I figured it'll be more fun and also more easier. The person I will be working with is Aniya Smiff. I chose her as my partner because we already have a connection and we work well together. After we established that we would be partners, we started thinking about what song we could do together. I thought of songs like roar by Katy Perry but decided against them. After a while we decided that the song should be a duet. We originally thought we should do the city girls since they are a girl group. Although they are a girl group they had a lot of cursing in all of their music and we didn't think it would be appropriate. In the end, we decided on the song Same girl by R Kelly featuring Usher. We decided on this song because to us it's funny. Me and Aniya are both goofy so that caught our eye. We fe...

Vaseline commercial

Image
This was my first film project ever. Due to it being my first I was very excited. I ran into many problems that I never would have thought occurred. For example, uploading this video. As I type this I have no idea on how to upload it because everything I am trying is not working. Hopefully when you are reading this, it will be visible😂. On a serious note, I feel as if this project has taught me a lot when it comes to being both the director and the cast. It has also taught me a lot about editing and filming. Before I started this project I had little to no knowledge on filming my own commercial. Moving forward, I feel that the next filming project I do will be even better. Although this project could have been done better, I believe that I did a nice job for it to be my first time. During the whole process many things had to be changed. When I first finished editing the video it rounded up to about 47 seconds. I had no idea what to change without not following what I planned I my prev...

Editing blog: Vaseline commercial

Image
I begun editing my commercial on November 2nd. Before I started to edit the commercial, I thought about how I want it to look. I edited everything on my iPhone on iMovie. Due to me editing on my phone, I encountered problems such as me not having enough storage. I also encountered a WIFI issue causing it to lag a few times. When I first started to edit, I realized that the commercial may go over 30 seconds. This is when I started to do my best to shorten each scene as much as possible. I shortened the 4th scene the most which led to it being a little under 5 seconds. The rest of the scenes is where I trimmed out the parts where I either told stop my sister to stop recording or asked if she had started yet. I didn't have any words in the commercial and I wanted it to be more intriguing so I started to add back ground music. The background music took a minute to find but once I found the right one I applied to throughout the entire video. I also debated about adding a voiceover at t...

Filming my Vaseline commercial

Image
On Sunday November 1st, I started to film my commercial. I intended to film on October 31st but encountered many problems such as not being able to get to my destination. I was originally supposed to film someone else but the person backed out. I spent hours thinking about what could I possibly do. I realized that I can have my older sister film me. As the director and the actor I brought all of the costumes and directed my sister on how and where to old the cameras. The scenes weren't exactly how I pictured them to be due to my sister rushing because she had to work. I wasn't able to get the second Vaseline product so I had to use the same one twice. I also had to film the bedroom parts in the living room due to my sister working in my room. I was only able to reshoot two scenes which were the first and fifth scene. In the first scene it was dark so I had to open the blinds and reshoot. The fifth scene was originally filmed vertically so I had to reshoot. The rest of the scene...
